10 tips to get started in the garden with lush lemongrass – Herbs

Today we’ll just list a few options for how we can use our plants grown in our garden or balcony.

1. Lemongrass tea

If you want a little soothing, succulent tea, we pinch a few shoots off the lemongrass and immediately boil it and soak it for 10 minutes to make our tea, which can be sipped without sweetening. In summer, we can even create refreshing Ice tea by fooling around with ice cubes and mint, it is much healthier than the store version. Dried eBoil a tablespoon of herbs with 2.5 dl of water, then filter after 15 minutes. We can drink up to 2-3 cups a day, it is said to fill the heart with joy and prolong life!

2. Lemongrass syrup

We also made the lemongrass version based on our favorite elderberry syrup recipe, with so many changes that the drink is not made from flowers, but we soak a good two or three gills of fresh lemongrass sprouts in the sugar water. The end result is a very refreshing, aromatic drink, we strongly recommend it for everyone’s attention!

3. Lemongrass jam, jelly

Lemongrass can also be a flavoring for jams made from berries or apricots.

4. Lemongrass as a herb

Taste once with meat and fish a yogurt lemongrass sauce! 1 box of natural yogurt needs 4-5 fresh lemongrass leaves chopped, salt, pepper, a little honey, mustard, a few drops of lemon juice and a garlic. The essential oils (citral, citronellal, geraniol and linalool) found in the leaves of lemongrass not only repel mosquitoes, but also reduce the stress that accumulates in us with their pleasant scent. Surround the terrace with a few pots of lemongrass and below with mosquito repellent plants.

7. Lemongrass essential oil into the bath

Lemongrass essential oil is known to have a soothing, stress-relieving effect and is a key agent in aromatherapy. Its strong, fresh, lemon scent is also ideal for refreshing the air spaces of our home. 8. Lemongrass essential oil massage

A relaxing massage with lemongrass essential oil really works wonders, in young children it can be used instilled in massage oil (almond seed, apricot kernel oil or macadamia nut oil) before or during bathing. This can help you sleep soundly.

9. Drying lemongrass

It is worth harvesting the lemongrass before flowering, at which time the many essential oils are concentrated in the leaves of the plant. Cutting height: 8-10 cm above the ground, it can be picked by hand, scythe or sickle. As the leaves of lemongrass are sensitive to pressure and turn brown quickly, spread the picked leaves as quickly as possible and keep them in a dry, ventilated place until completely dry. Spiritus melissae compositus, i.e. an alcoholic lemongrass composition, “Eau de Melisse des Carmes” in French and “Klosterfrau Melissengeist” in German cover an alcoholic distillate of which lemongrass is an essential component. The colorless, spicy, water-like liquid was prepared for colds and stomach complaints by the Carmelite nuns since the 1300s.
