Elden Ring has been sold twenty million times

Since the release of Elden Ring at the end of February last year, the Soulsborne-esque action RPG has sold more than twenty million copies worldwide. This milestone was achieved in just one year.

Bandai Namco and FromSoftware report that the game has sold more than twenty million units, but do not give an exact sales number. Reaching this number in a year’s time is no surprise considering the game’s popularity, previous good sales and positive reviews. At the end of last year, Elden Ring won the Game of the Year award, beating God of War Ragnarök and Horizon Forbidden West.

Elden Ring went quickly over the counter, especially immediately after the release of February 25, 2022. A few weeks after its release, it was announced that the title had already been sold twelve million times and in August last year the counter stood at 16.6 million copies .

The action RPG Elden Ring was created by developer FromSoftware, known for titles such as Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. These games are referred to as the Soulsborne games and have similar elements such as a specific way of fighting, a mysterious world, developing the characters and achieving checkpoints. The games are notorious for their difficulty, although Elden Ring is considered the more accessible game of the series.
