Realme releases smartphone in China that can charge with 240W

Realme has launched the GT Neo 5 in China in China. The battery of that phone can be charged with a power of 240 watts, the maximum that the current USB-C specification allows.

The realme GT Neo 5 should therefore be able to reach a full battery charge in less than ten minutes, eg writes GSMArena based on the realme product page. The battery capacity of the device is 4600mAh, but there will also be a variant that charges with a maximum of 150 watts and has a capacity of 5000mAh.

It seems that the charging of the devices goes through realme’s own Dart Charge- protocol. That’s basically the same protocol as OnePlus’ Warp Charge and OPPO’s VOOC. All these brands and companies own the Chinese BBK Electronics, which holds the standard. The consequence of using Dart Charge instead of USB-C Power Delivery with Extended Power Range is that more universal chargers can’t reach 240W with this device; users must have a compatible adapter from BBK.

Otherwise, the two variants do not differ much. The 240W version always has 16GB of RAM on board and the 150W version can have 8 or 12GB. The storage space on the slower charging variant is 256GB, but on the more expensive version it goes up to 1TB.

The soc is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, the OLED display has a diagonal of 6.74″, a refresh rate of 144Hz and a 1240p resolution. The 240W variant costs a minimum of 437 euros and a maximum of 479 euros in China.

Whether the device will also come to the Netherlands and Belgium is currently uncertain. the GT Neo 3T are available here through certain dealers, who presumably do gray imports. The GT Neo 2 is even officially available in the Netherlands.
