The future Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra smartphone towards continuous optical zoom?

According to some prognosticators, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra could bring a nice novelty in the field of mobile photography: a continuous optical zoom.

It is really too early for the first rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S22. But if we lend ourselves to the game here, it is because the technology mentioned is interesting and will obviously be implemented on many mobiles in the years to come. According to Sammobile, specialist in the news of the South Korean giant, Samsung Electromechanics and Samsung LSI have developed a periscope zoom lens allowing continuous optical zoom. And of course, some see it as a sign that the Galaxy S22 Ultra will be equipped with it, allowing it to switch seamlessly between 3x and 10x zoom.

The use of such a zoom would theoretically make it possible to gain in image quality and sharpness, as well as to save image recomposition tasks on the telephone. What’s more, a continuous zoom camera ranging from 3x to 10x would theoretically allow Samsung to remove the 10x camera from the S21 Ultra or swap it out for a different camera.

For some time, smartphones have been regularly equipped with periscopic zoom lenses. Recently, the Sony Xperia 1 III unveiled its variable focal length zoom, but here too, its operation is based on switching from one focal length to another without transition.

The whistleblower responsible for these rumors also indicated that the Galaxy S22 Ultra could offer an underscreen selfie camera and a Samsung processor with AMD GPU. This last information should also be confirmed since the next Exynos are developed with the participation of AMD.
