Xiaomi is working on an Android smartwatch that will run on a more standard version of Wear OS, 9to5Google sources say. This may mean that the watches get features faster that other vanilla models also have.
9to5Google writes that it has spoken with “a source familiar with the development.” He says that Xiaomi wants to fully embrace the ‘Wear OS brand’ with this model. As a result, there should be less time between the release of a feature on, for example, the Pixel Watch, which of course runs on the latest version of Wear OS, and a release on this Xiaomi smartwatch.
The site writes that such a watch could come on the market sometime in 2023. Any specifications are not yet known, but the Xiaomi Watch S1 Pro , which was released last year, has a 1.47″ amoled screen with a resolution of 480 by 480 pixels and a maximum brightness of 600 nits. The price of that device is 300 euros. Perhaps this more ‘neutral’ smartwatch has different software, but is otherwise similar to the Watch S1 Pro.
